Gift Card Day

The kids each got some gift cards for Christmas.

Braelyn got a gift card for Claire's, and Donny got one for Chuck E. Cheese (or Chuckin' Cheese as he would say).

Today was Gift Card Day.

I took the kids to an early lunch at Chuck E. Cheese (before it got too crowded) and let the kids play for a couple hours.

Luckily, my friend Helena joined us so I had an extra set of eyes on the kids. :)

After lunch, we went to Claire's so Braelyn could spend her money. She ended up buying a mini-brush that folds up (perfect for her purse) and some S-clips for the rubber band bracelets kids are making these days.

While we were there, we had some fun taking pictures with the fun glasses. :)

Fun times! :)

New Year Resolutions - 2014

We make them every year.

It seems like every resolution I read has something to do with weight loss, getting in shape, eating right, etc.

I'd like to do all of those things. Really, I would. They're a constant work in progress, though.

However, these are my resolutions this year:

1) Run a race each month. (I've already registered for January and September.)

2) Blog more. This one is a special request from Braelyn. She enjoys reading my old blog books. Since I don't really keep up with baby books like a "good mom" should, I guess this is the next best thing. :)

Let's see how I do!

"Can I ask God for something?" - Donny

Sweet ending to my night…

I walked down the hall to turn off the bathroom light that shouldn't have been on when I noticed Donny all wrapped in his blanket, laying in his doorway.

I picked him up and put him back in bed, and he was smiling while pretending to be asleep the whole time. I told him I could tell he was faking it, but he was a sweet looking faker. Then we had this conversation:

Donny: Mommy, can I ask God for something?
Me: Sure. You can ask God for anything you want, but you don't always get it.
Donny: How do I do that? Do I yell for him to come down?
Me: No, you don't have to yell. You can whisper if you want. He can always hear you. What do you want to ask God for?
Donny: I want to ask Him for a new baby.
Me: Well, remember that God doesn't always give you what you ask for. A new baby would have to be in God's plan for us to have another baby in our family.

He then asked me about how God made babies, but we'll tackle that conversation when he's a few years older. Ha!

I'm sure my mom would love for Donny's prayers to be answered.

I know I'm going to miss these little conversations when they get older...

Donny: Mom, did you know that your mudder is my grandmudder?
Me: Yes, I did know that my mudder is your grandmudder.

LOVE THAT KID!

A little bedtime conversation...

Donny: Mommy, what if there was a ginormous-normous-normous-normous-normous snake?
Me: Well, that depends. Where is the snake?
Donny: It's on earth and in the desert.
Me: As long as it stays in the desert, we're perfectly safe.
Donny: Okay

***I really need to get better at posting these conversations.

The conversation's getting DEEP in here...

Don's mom, Nelda (Grandma W), died one year ago today.

We've been celebrating her birthday and now her passing by sending messages up with balloons. Braelyn made a card for her birthday back in December. Unfortunately, I didn't get a picture of it :( - but I assure you it was SWEET.

She also made a card to send up today. The card had a sad face on it with lots of tears! We sure do miss Nelda!

The kids picked out the balloons themselves. I think it's pretty appropriate that Donny chose one with a "1" on it. Aren't they sweet?

On our way home from buying the balloons we had a conversation that went something like this:

Donny: Can you talk when you go to Heaven?
Me: I'm sure you can.
Donny: Will you be able to hear me?
Me: (not really sure how to answer) Yes, I think so.
Donny: How will I find you when I get there?
Me: You just will.
Donny: Dogs go to Heaven.
Me: Yes, they do.
Donny: Can they bark?
Me: Probably so.
Braelyn: Daddy, you'll be able to see Beau when you get to Heaven.
Don: Yep, I hope we'll get to go hunt one more time. Can you hunt in Heaven?
Donny: How will I get back home after I get to Heaven?
Me: Heaven will be your new home. You won't be able to come back here.

This is the moment when I looked over at Don and told him that we will start taking our family to church. We're going to need some help here!

These two precious kids of mine are far wiser than their young 4 and 7 years of age.

First Grade - Awards

**June 4, 2013 - I haven't written a blog since December. I suppose it's time to get caught up. Unfortunately, details will be seriously lacking since it's been six months!

Braelyn received an award in January for being a hard worker and for having perfect attendance through the first semester.

(I'm also having hard time learning how to use our new computer - a mac - so this is the only picture I could get to show up on this post. Boo!)
