Last Thursday, October 21, 2010 Donny got tubes. I was a little nervous about my little one going through surgery, but more than that I was stressed about how much money it was going to cost. To be honest, we were a little torn on whether or not to go through with it since it was going to be much more expensive than we had anticipated.Questions come up like:
* Will it work?
* Is all the money really worth getting some sleep at night?
* Will it work?
***You get the idea?
So, anyway, we took Donny to the surgery center in the wee hours of the morning. I'd have the say the hardest part was not letting him have anything to eat. Don and I didn't want to eat in front of him because we didn't want him tempted by our food -- so we, too, were HUNGRY!
They took Donny back to do the surgery and were done in about a half an hour. During that time, Don had gone to get us some breakfast. The doctor came out to the waiting room and told us that all had gone well. He had decided to remove Donny's adenoids because they were a "pretty good size" (I assume that meant large) and full of mucus. To top it all off, Donny actually had a left ear infection at the time the tubes were put in.
Bless his little heart. After hearing that Donny had yet ANOTHER ear infection, I had decided that we had definitely done the right thing. The poor kid had suffered enough. Yes, we were tired after not sleeping through the night for 15 months, but Donny had been in pain!
Since his surgery, Donny has slept through the night every night except once. He's always been a laid back and easy kind of kid, but he seems to be having more fun now! He's definitely more chatty -- perhaps because he can actually hear us now and can start to make his own sounds.
If I had it to do all over, I would!
